The food in Malaysia is incredibly diverse, offering Malaysian classics as well as Chinese and Indian-inspired cuisines. A dream destination for foodies, Kuala Lumpur does not disappoint — to say the least.
Many people are excited to go to Malaysia because they’ve had heard great things about the food. And while there are many food options to choose from, we’ve narrowed it down to the 7 best Kuala Lumpur restaurants that are delicious and offer an array of quality eats at every pricepoint.
1. Bala’s Banana Leaf
In addition to good food, presentation and ambience is key. In true historic Malay fashion, Bala’s Banana Leaf has visitors literally eating off of a banana leaf. That unique aspect caught my attention, not to mention the curries, veggies, and fresh seafood offered at this unforgettable restaurant.
2. Yung Kee Beef Noodles
This inexpensive, Hong Kong-influenced restaurant provides food for the soul. I was blown away by the rice noodles, soaking in a delectable beef broth and topped with a large cut of beef (offered in various styles, to your liking).
3. Capital Café
This cute cafe is perfect for a lunchtime exploration of Malaysian cuisine. I ordered the ayam kalio, because of its coconut milk base (which I love in Thai cuisine), and mix of chicken and veggies. Pop over there for a deliciously warm, healthy, homestyle meal.
4. South Sea
Kuala Lumpur is famous for featuring Malaysian dishes with a nod to international cuisine. I was highly impressed at the list of seafood options at South Sea.
Perfect for dinner, with twinkling stars above you, you can choose from a list of crab, lobster, prawns, scallops, other meats, vegetable, and rice dishes from all around the world.
5. Table and Apron
This locale is for the hipster types who love cozy cafes in up-and-coming neighborhoods. Table and Apron was my favorite cafe, not just because of their high-class and unique dishes, but because of their delicious coffees and cakes, perfect for my afternoon journaling sessions.
6. Kedai Makanan Nam Chun
This Malaysian spot is amazing for breakfast/brunch in particular, and the ultimate place to start your day.
You can’t miss out on the pork noodles, and for those who don’t eat pork, there is a ton of variety at this bustling shop. Insanely good and oh-so-comforting!
7. Oversea Restaurant
This is, hands down, my favorite restaurant in all of Kuala Lumpur. And reviews across multiple sites on the web will agree with this sentiment.
The family-style presentation of multiple Chinese delights had me full, yet craving more, just for the taste!
The Best of Kuala Lumpur
It was really tough to limit myself to just 7 of the best restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, considering I visited a lot more than that. However, I believe that this list includes the best of the best!
If you’re a foodie, like I am, then you should definitely make Kuala Lumpur your next travel destination, and eat to your heart’s content!
